Before we go into detail about this monthly newsletter, I would love to go back to basics and reintroduce myself and what these newsletters are all about: sharing my journey, educating, and providing value.
My name is Maria Montes. I’m a Catalan-Australian designer in love with letterforms. For the past ten years, I have been sending bimonthly newsletters divided into three sections:
A personal introductory letter
A section featuring my latest projects
Resources amplifying voices in the type and design industries
Since 2024, I have been communicating monthly, alternating between my regular design newsletters and my online educational services—such as the one you are reading right now.

LEARNING CALLIGRAPHY BASICS
My Learning Calligraphy section covers many aspects of calligraphy, such as calligraphy styles, recommended materials, blank guidelines, books, tutorials, a list of calligraphy lectures and a glossary of terms widely used in the letterform community which I truly enjoyed creating.
CALLIGRAPHY SUPPLIES RECOMMENDED
The Supplies Section of my website answers many questions my students have been asking for over a decade. My recommendations focus on simple and low-key materials that can take you far, as these are the same materials I have been using since my first time holding a calligraphy pen back in 1996 —that is last century!
